The Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic together with our Fund organized the 9th annual ceremonial meeting of Shoa survivors with representatives of Czech state in Czech Senate on 27th January 2014 on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remebrance Day.
The event took place under the auspicies of Milan Stech, the head of Czech Senate, who also addressed the audience with a speech. The following speeches were delivered by Jaroslava Jermanova, the deputy-head of Czech Parlament, Jana Horvatova, the directress of the Roma Museum in Brno, Shoa survivor Patrik Elias and the president of Federation of Czech Jewish Communities Petr Papousek.
All speakers agreed on the importance of remembering the atrocities of the Holocaust even 70 years after the liberation of Auschwitz. At the same time, they warned against the current xenophobic tendencies in the Czech society, which bare similarities with tendencies of the pre-WWII Europe.
